Food & Allergen Information
Last updated 4 September 2026
Effective date: 4 September 2026
Last updated: 4 September 2026
This notice explains how PepperClub provides food, ingredient and allergen information for groceries sold through our website and mobile applications.
It applies to PepperClub's current retail model, which primarily includes:
- manufacturer- or importer-prepacked groceries;
- chilled and frozen packaged foods;
- bakery products supplied prepacked and labelled by the manufacturer or bakery;
- sealed and labelled meat and fish products; and
- fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs that may be sold by unit, fixed pack or weight.
PepperClub does not currently manufacture, cook or produce PepperClub-branded prepared food.
This notice should be read together with the PepperClub Customer Terms & Conditions of Sale, Delivery Policy, Returns, Refunds & Cancellation Policy, Substitution Policy, and Privacy Notice.
Nothing in this notice limits or excludes your statutory consumer rights.
IMPORTANT — IF YOU HAVE A FOOD ALLERGY
If you or someone you are ordering for has a food allergy, intolerance or other important dietary requirement:
- Read the product information shown before ordering.
- Check the physical label on the delivered product every time before eating or using it.
- Check the label again even if you have bought the same product before, because manufacturers may change recipes, ingredients, factories, packaging or precautionary allergen statements.
- Check every substituted product separately. A substitute that looks similar is not necessarily allergenically equivalent.
- Do not rely solely on product images, brand familiarity, previous purchases, search filters or general order notes.
- If the information is unclear or appears inconsistent, do not consume the product. Contact PepperClub or the manufacturer for clarification.
PepperClub stores and handles products containing a wide variety of allergens. Our dark store is not an allergen-free environment.
We do not make a blanket guarantee that cross-contact can never occur.
1. About PepperClub
PepperClub is operated by:
PepperClub Ltd
Company number: 17072549
Registered in England and Wales
Registered office: 48 Radcliffe Drive, Derby, England, DE22 3LA
Customer support: support@pepperclub.co.uk
PepperClub's food-business registration process is currently pending. This notice does not claim a completed registration until that process has been completed.
2. Food information for online orders
Food sold online is a distance sale.
PepperClub aims to make the mandatory food information required for an online purchase available to customers before the purchase is completed, except for information that the law permits to be provided later.
Required information will also be available when the food is delivered, normally through the physical manufacturer's, importer's or other legally compliant product label and, where relevant, additional PepperClub information.
Product information should be provided free of charge to the customer.
3. Information we may display on product pages
Depending on the food and the legal requirements applying to it, PepperClub product pages may provide information such as:
- name of the food;
- product description;
- brand;
- ingredients;
- allergen information;
- net quantity;
- unit price;
- nutrition information;
- storage instructions;
- cooking or preparation instructions;
- country or place of origin where required;
- warnings or special conditions;
- manufacturer/importer or responsible food-business information where required; and
- other legally required product information.
Some information, such as a particular durability date on an individual physical pack, may only be available at delivery where permitted by law.
4. Where PepperClub gets product information
PepperClub may compile product information using a combination of:
- the current physical product label;
- photographs or scans of product packaging;
- information supplied by UK wholesalers or importers;
- manufacturer data;
- manufacturer websites;
- supplier catalogues;
- barcode/product databases; and
- other verified product-information sources.
Where sources conflict, PepperClub will give priority to the current physical label and verified manufacturer/importer information, subject to applicable legal requirements.
Third-party catalogue information will not be treated as more authoritative than current verified product information merely because it is easier to obtain.
5. Product label records
As part of product onboarding and catalogue maintenance, PepperClub may photograph or otherwise record:
- the front of the product;
- the ingredients panel;
- allergen information;
- nutrition information;
- storage instructions;
- barcode;
- manufacturer/importer information; and
- other relevant label information.
These records may be retained internally to help:
- verify catalogue information;
- identify the version of a product label;
- investigate customer questions;
- update product data;
- investigate recalls; and
- demonstrate the source of information used in the catalogue.
6. Products with missing or uncertain information
PepperClub should not knowingly make a food product available for online purchase where legally required pre-purchase information is unavailable or cannot reasonably be verified.
If we discover that:
- mandatory product information is missing;
- allergen information may be inaccurate;
- a supplier record conflicts materially with the current label;
- a label is illegible;
- a mandatory label is materially damaged; or
- information may be out of date,
we may temporarily remove or block the product from sale until the information is verified.
We will not rely on a general disclaimer as a substitute for information that food law requires us to provide.
7. The 14 regulated allergens
UK food-information law identifies 14 allergens that businesses must provide information about where applicable.
They are:
- Celery, including celeriac.
- Cereals containing gluten, including wheat, rye, barley and oats and relevant varieties such as spelt and khorasan wheat.
- Crustaceans, such as prawns, crabs, lobster and crayfish.
- Eggs.
- Fish.
- Lupin.
- Milk, including lactose.
- Molluscs, such as mussels, oysters, squid and snails.
- Mustard.
- Nuts, including relevant tree nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecans, Brazil nuts, pistachios and macadamia nuts.
- Peanuts.
- Sesame.
- Soya/soybeans.
- Sulphur dioxide and sulphites above the legally specified concentration.
People may also be allergic or intolerant to ingredients outside these 14 categories.
8. How allergens are shown
For manufacturer-prepacked products, PepperClub aims to reproduce or clearly communicate allergen information based on the legally compliant manufacturer/importer information.
Where an ingredients list is displayed, regulated allergens should be appropriately identified or emphasised in line with the underlying product information and applicable law.
PepperClub may also provide a clearly visible Allergens section on a product page to help customers find relevant information more easily.
This convenience section does not replace the full ingredients information or the physical product label.
9. Precautionary statements such as "may contain"
A manufacturer may use precautionary allergen statements such as:
- "may contain nuts";
- "may contain traces of milk"; or
- "not suitable for people with a [specified] allergy".
Where such a statement forms part of current product information, PepperClub may reproduce it.
PepperClub will not invent its own precautionary allergen statement merely as a broad legal disclaimer.
If a product's manufacturer or responsible food business changes its precautionary allergen information, PepperClub may update the catalogue accordingly.
10. "Free-from" and allergen-free claims
Terms such as:
- "gluten-free";
- "milk-free";
- "nut-free"; or
- "[allergen]-free"
can carry important food-safety meaning.
PepperClub will only display or repeat these claims where they are appropriately supported by reliable product, manufacturer, certification or responsible supplier information.
PepperClub will not independently label a product "allergen-free" simply because an allergen is not obvious from the product name.
11. Vegan, vegetarian and halal information
PepperClub does not currently use vegan, vegetarian or halal catalogue filters/badges as part of the service covered by this version of the notice.
If these features are introduced in future, PepperClub will only present such characteristics where supported by reliable information such as:
- the current product label;
- manufacturer information;
- recognised certification;
- importer information; or
- another suitably reliable source.
A vegan or vegetarian claim must not be treated as proof that a product is free from a particular allergen.
12. Manufacturer changes
Manufacturers may change:
- recipes;
- ingredients;
- suppliers;
- manufacturing facilities;
- allergen statements;
- precautionary warnings;
- product sizes; and
- packaging.
For this reason, customers with allergies or other significant dietary requirements should check the physical product label every time, even when purchasing a familiar product.
Previous purchase history should not be treated as a substitute for checking the current product.
13. Imported Kerala and Indian products
PepperClub may sell imported products from India and other countries.
Products sold in the UK must carry the information required for lawful sale in the UK.
PepperClub expects imported products to be supplied through appropriate UK wholesalers/importers and, where necessary, to carry compliant English-language information or an appropriate supplementary label.
If an imported product does not provide the information required for online sale and PepperClub cannot obtain and verify that information, the product should not be made purchasable until the issue is resolved.
14. Manufacturer-prepacked foods
Most PepperClub products are supplied already packaged and labelled by the manufacturer, importer or other responsible food business.
PepperClub normally resells those products without opening or changing their retail packaging.
At delivery, the physical product label is an important source of information and should be checked before consumption.
Where PepperClub becomes aware that a delivered package is materially different from the catalogue information in a way that affects safety or mandatory information, we will investigate and take appropriate corrective action.
15. Fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs
PepperClub may sell fresh produce:
- by individual unit;
- in a fixed pack;
- by weight; or
- using another clearly stated quantity basis.
Some produce, including items such as fresh chillies, tomatoes, plantain, coconuts, curry leaves and herbs, may be picked loose and placed into a suitable produce or carrier bag after the order is received.
Loose fruit and vegetables may not require the same ingredients labelling as multi-ingredient packaged foods, but PepperClub will provide mandatory information that applies to the particular product.
Where a loose/non-prepacked food contains or uses a regulated allergen and allergen information is legally required, PepperClub will make that information available as required.
16. Handling loose produce
PepperClub will take reasonable handling measures for loose produce, including appropriate measures such as:
- clean hands or suitable gloves where appropriate;
- clean produce bags and handling equipment;
- reasonable separation from damaged or leaking packaged food;
- removal of visibly unsuitable produce; and
- suitable storage and temperature control.
However, PepperClub handles many different foods in the same operation.
We therefore do not represent the dark store, picking operation, crates or delivery operation as allergen-free.
17. Bakery products
Bakery goods sold under PepperClub's current model are supplied prepacked and labelled by the manufacturer or bakery.
PepperClub does not currently sell loose/unwrapped bakery goods under this version of the notice.
If this changes, PepperClub will review and update its food-information and allergen procedures before introducing the new format.
18. Meat and fish
Meat and fish products sold by PepperClub are currently supplied:
- commercially packaged;
- sealed; and
- labelled by the manufacturer or supplier.
PepperClub does not currently cut, portion, process or repack meat or fish.
PepperClub does not currently sell loose meat or fish.
Customers should follow all storage, handling, cooking and use instructions provided with the product.
19. Frozen and chilled products
Frozen and chilled foods are normally supplied in their original commercial packaging and remain in that packaging through picking and delivery.
PepperClub uses handling and delivery arrangements designed to protect the required cold chain.
After delivery, customers are responsible for promptly placing chilled and frozen products into appropriate storage and following the manufacturer's instructions.
If a chilled or frozen product appears to have been supplied in an unsafe condition, do not consume it and contact PepperClub promptly.
20. Substituted products
A substituted product may have:
- different ingredients;
- different allergens;
- different precautionary statements;
- different dietary characteristics; or
- a different recipe
from the product originally ordered.
Always check the physical label of every substitute before consuming it.
PepperClub will not knowingly represent a substitute as allergenically equivalent where that cannot be properly established.
Where PepperClub cannot safely determine suitability against a specifically identified material allergy or dietary requirement, our Substitution Policy provides for a conservative approach rather than assuming equivalence.
21. Allergy notes and order instructions
Customers may sometimes use order or delivery notes to tell PepperClub about an allergy or dietary concern.
Providing such a note does not mean PepperClub can guarantee that the entire basket, warehouse or delivery environment is free from the allergen.
An allergy note does not replace the customer's need to:
- review each product before ordering; and
- check the physical label of every delivered product before consumption.
Please do not provide unnecessary health information in general delivery instructions.
22. Cross-contact
PepperClub stores products containing allergens including, among others:
- peanuts;
- tree nuts;
- wheat/gluten-containing cereals;
- milk;
- sesame;
- soya; and
- other regulated allergens.
We use reasonable storage and handling controls appropriate to our retail operation.
However, because different packaged and loose food products are handled within the same operation, PepperClub does not guarantee that accidental allergen cross-contact is impossible.
We will not make a "free-from" or similar cross-contact guarantee unless the relevant product and process properly support that claim.
23. Information at delivery
For manufacturer-prepacked products, the physical manufacturer/importer label supplied with the item will normally provide the applicable delivery-stage product information.
The customer's digital order record and product page may provide additional information.
For any non-prepacked food where allergen information is required, PepperClub will use written information at the relevant stages rather than relying solely on the driver's memory.
Drivers should not be treated as the authoritative source for detailed ingredient or allergen questions unless PepperClub has provided them with verified information for that purpose.
24. If information looks wrong
If you believe a PepperClub product page contains incorrect or outdated:
- ingredients;
- allergens;
- storage information;
- dietary information;
- product description; or
- other food information,
please report it to:
Where the concern could affect food safety, PepperClub may suspend the product from sale while the information is checked.
25. If you are unsure whether a product is safe for you
If you have an allergy or intolerance and cannot establish from the available information whether a product is suitable:
Do not order or consume the product until you have obtained sufficient information.
You may contact:
Telephone support for food/allergen enquiries may also be made available through the contact details shown in the PepperClub app or website.
If telephone allergen information is provided, PepperClub will use a normal customer-support contact method rather than requiring customers to use a premium-rate allergen-information service.
26. Damaged packaging
Do not consume a food product if:
- packaging that should be sealed is unexpectedly open;
- the packaging is severely damaged;
- there is evidence of leakage or contamination;
- the product appears spoiled; or
- its condition creates a reasonable food-safety concern.
Contact PepperClub promptly.
We may ask for photographs, batch information or packaging details and may provide refund, collection, disposal or other instructions depending on the circumstances.
27. Use-by and best-before dates
A use-by date relates to food safety for foods where consuming the product after that date may be unsafe.
A best-before date primarily relates to quality rather than functioning in the same way as a use-by date.
Customers should follow the date, storage and use instructions on the physical product.
Nothing in this notice encourages customers to disregard product-specific safety instructions or date markings.
PepperClub's separate operational policy for minimum remaining shelf life may be developed as the service matures.
28. Storage after delivery
Once products have been properly handed over to you, you are responsible for following the storage and use instructions provided with them.
This includes, where applicable:
- refrigerating chilled food promptly;
- placing frozen food into suitable frozen storage promptly;
- keeping food at the required temperature;
- following use-by dates;
- following cooking instructions; and
- storing opened products as directed.
If you believe a product was already unsafe or improperly handled before or at delivery, contact PepperClub under our Returns, Refunds & Cancellation Policy.
29. Product recalls and safety alerts
If a food product is recalled or subject to a safety alert, PepperClub may use order records to identify and contact affected customers.
Food-safety and recall communications are not marketing communications and may be sent even where you have opted out of promotional messages.
Depending on the recall, we may ask you to:
- stop using the product;
- dispose of it safely;
- retain it temporarily;
- return it;
- check batch/date information; or
- follow manufacturer or regulator instructions.
PepperClub may provide an appropriate refund or replacement where applicable.
30. Product-information responsibilities
PepperClub takes reasonable steps to provide current information required for the foods we sell online.
For manufacturer- and importer-prepacked goods, PepperClub appropriately relies on information provided by the responsible manufacturer, importer, wholesaler or other food-business operator, while taking reasonable steps to identify and correct information that we know or reasonably should know is inaccurate.
Customers should also check the physical delivered label, particularly because packaging and recipes can change.
This notice does not state that PepperClub has "no responsibility" for product information.
Nothing here removes any legal responsibility that applies to PepperClub as the retailer or food business operator.
31. Future PepperClub-prepared or repacked food
This notice reflects PepperClub's current retail model.
Before PepperClub introduces any material new activity such as:
- cooking food;
- manufacturing food;
- preparing ready-to-eat meals;
- repacking multi-ingredient food;
- selling PepperClub-labelled prepared food;
- loose meat/fish processing; or
- other in-house food production,
we will review the applicable:
- food-registration requirements;
- allergen controls;
- food-safety procedures;
- labelling requirements;
- catalogue-information requirements; and
- customer-facing notices.
This notice and our internal procedures will be updated where necessary before such products are launched.
32. Changes to this notice
PepperClub may update this Food & Allergen Information Notice where:
- our product range changes;
- our food-handling model changes;
- suppliers or catalogue processes change;
- legal or regulatory requirements change; or
- additional clarification is needed.
The current version will show its last-updated date.
Food-safety corrections may be implemented immediately where necessary.

If any part of this notice conflicts with a mandatory legal requirement, the mandatory requirement will apply.
